Making reuse a practical reality in non-residential projects

On 10 June 2026, partners Drastic’s French Demonstrator came together to share insights and practical experiences on the reuse of removable partitions and ceiling tiles within renovation projects.

Beyond material availability: what makes reuse work?

The exchange highlighted an important message: enabling reuse is not only about the availability of materials. Successful implementation depends on creating the right technical, economic and organisational conditions across the value chain.

This included:

• careful deconstruction and recovery of materials 
• robust quality control processes to ensure reliability and safety 
• maintenance of technical and acoustic performance standards 
• building confidence and acceptance among project owners and end users 
• addressing insurability considerations for reused products 
• development of viable and scalable business models 
• strengthened collaboration across all actors in the value chain 

Enabling systemic change in the built environment

The discussions reinforced that scaling circular renovation practices requires more than technical solutions alone. It depends on the development of appropriate frameworks, aligned incentives, and collective mobilisation across the construction and materials ecosystem.

Moving reuse from pilot projects into mainstream practice will require coordinated action across the value chain, between manufacturers, designers, contractors, insurers, and clients.
